چکیده

The structure formation in acid promoted polycondensation and particularly in alkaline post-treatment with urea was studied by 13C NMR spectroscopy in the three-step synthesis of ureaformaldehyde resins. Trishydroxymethyl urea was identified as the constituent of the mixture of hydroxylmethylated urea derivatives obtained in alkaline conditions. The formation of methylenes linked to secondary or tertiary amino groups occurs only in acidic conditions by branching chains in the reaction with monoand 1,3-bishydroxymethyl urea. Bishydroxymethyl groups do not take part in acid promoted polycondensation. The final structure of resins depends mostly on the migration of formaldehyde from bishydroxymethyl groups to urea with formation of monohydroxymethyl urea as the first preferred compound. A greater amount of oligomers with methylenes adjacent to secondary amino groups and containing singly bonded urea is a sign of a thorough heat treatment. A steady content of methylenes linked to tertiary amino groups is observed in heat treatment and ageing of resins.

Synthesis and Structure Characterization of Phenol-Urea-Formaldehyde Resins in the Presence of Magnesium Oxide as Catalyst

The objective of this research was to provide a useful approach of polymer synthesis for accelerating the fast cure of phenol-urea-formaldehyde (PUF) resin as wood adhesive by optimizing its structure and composition. The PUF resins containing high contents of very reactive groups such as para-methylol groups were synthesized by reacting methylolurea, phenol, and formaldehyde in the presence of...

The Effects of Adding Melamine at Different Resin Synthesis Points of Low Mole Ratio Urea-Melamine- Formaldehyde (UMF) Resins

Low mole ratio urea-melamine-formaldehyde (UMF) resins synthesized with 2.5% and 5.0% melamine levels added at the beginning, middle, and end points of the first alkaline step of the typical urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin synthesis procedure were compared with typical UMF resins synthesized with melamine additions made at the final alkaline step. Various resin analysis, particleboard preparation,...

Sand Production Control in Sandstone Reservoirs Using a Modified Urea-formaldehyde Re

Several techniques have been used for sand production control in sandstone reservoirs. The main objective of this research is to present a suitable resin to be used as a consolidation agent in oil reservoirs. To achieve this purpose, urea-formaldehyde resin, phenol-formaldehyde resin, and modified urea-formaldehyde resin were selected to be studied. Core samples were made by the sand sample prov...

Effects of Melamine Addition Stage on the Performance and Curing Behavior of Melamine-Urea-Formaldehyde (MUF) Resin

Three formaldehyde-based resins were prepared: urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin without melamine modifier (named UF0 resin) and melamineurea-formaldehyde (MUF) resins with melamine modifier added at two different synthesis stages (named MUF1 resin and MUF2 resin). The effects of the melamine addition stage on the performance and curing behavior of MUF resin were studied. Three-ply plywood bonded by...
